From design to furniture, introduction to metalwork By Tristan Colafrancesco

This training offers you the opportunity to implement the design and creation of small furniture (coffee table, console, lighting, etc.) through an introduction to the various techniques of metalwork, with the help of Tristan COLAFRANCESCO, metalwork artist, in the Campus Mana metal workshop. You will be led to create your own object while integrating specifications linking simple metalwork assembly techniques.

Content and forms of teaching

Metal, in all its forms, has been used in architecture, art and design since its invention.

You will learn to master simple assembly techniques, with a coherent view of feasibility depending on the material, to harmonize creation and manufacturing.

  • Technical, theoretical content and professional approach to metalwork.
  • Stages and reflection on the creation of a design object.
  • Workshop time: Introduction to metalwork techniques.
  • Creation of an object designed by you.
  • Conversations and advice from the speaker.

General learning objectives

The training allows the participant to acquire

  • the basics Know the basic operating mode of metalwork to be able to create furniture, a sculpture...
  • Have additional tools by learning the different basic metalworking techniques.
  • Create an object from A-Z.

Training tools / materials

Access to references, preparation documents, recommended readings, filmography, etc. before the program starts. Material provided.

Follow-up on your work at MaNa, daily meetings, intermediate rendering and collective presentation in the end of the training.

Individual meeting on your current practice, based on the portfolio, allowing to reinforce, correct or orientate different questions.

At the end of the training, learners will be able to

  • Have additional tools by learning the different basic metalworking techniques.
  • Create an object from A-Z.

Assessment methods

  • The acquisition of knowledge and experience during training, the progress of work and the final rendering are considered.
  • Documented and well-argued final project.
  • Training validated by a MaNa certificate.

Admission criteria / prerequisites

No prerequisites

  • Step 1: Sending a letter of interest (maximum 1500 sign including spaces).
  • Step 2: Validation of the application by the admission board.
