The Discovery program offers a wide range of short introductory workshops to familiarize the public with the various materials and the ancestral or contemporary skills involved in their transformation.

Speakers

These trainings are supervised by local craftsmen, certified by Ma.Na., with Maison & Objet Academy as a partner to share them online.

Content and forms of teaching

Ma.Na's team accompanies the participant to actively discover and master the basics of ceramics, wood or metal trough :
  • Hours of work in the workshops as well as on the field
  • Individual and collective scenarios
  • Conversations and advices from tutors.

Typical day and week schedule

General learning objectives

The program allows the participants to gain knowledge and techniques related to ceramics, wood or metal materials.

Training tools / materials

  • Access to references, preparation documents, recommended readings, filmography, etc. before the beginning of the training.
  • Technical acquisition via your own selection of hand, stationary and power tools. Includes a brief introduction to the history of these tools, an introduction to their maintenance and use.
  • Creation of your « technical passeport » including evaluations and refresher courses on the use of the different tools & assembly techniques, notably through fundamental practical exercises.
  • Individualized meeting on your current practice, notably around the portfolio, allowing you to reinforce, correct, and redirect the different questions.
  • The work can be individual, in small groups or collective.

Assessment methods

  • Production of an object or a scale 1 installation
  • Collective restitution
  • weighting criteria for evaluation : 30% training tutor / 30% craftsman / 30% peers / 10% self-assessment
 - using a learning assessment grid
 - the acquisition of knowledge and experience during training, the progress of work and the final rendering are taken into account
  • training validated by a Ma.Na certificate.

Admission criteria / prerequisites

No professional prerequisites but a true interest for craft and handwork.
